Ev carsThe EV (electric vehicle) Has a history dating back to the early 1800's They were good car and less dirty that petrol cars. Back in those days Electric was not as wide spread as it is today and therefore refueling your car was not simple and as easy logistically as shipping petrol. This saw the birth of petrol station. One of the hooks in the back of EV's was the electric starter motor which cars back then did not have. the combination of cheap fuel and wide spread of petrol stations lead to the dwindling fans of the EV's.. Not to forget that the battery technology was very poor. Battery technologies... We take for granted and I'm sure the kids of today with all pocket battery devices would not remember back 20 years ago to the batteries that you used to get. The ones that would last a few minutes like those that can be found today in the very cheap shops. Battery tech has really changed over the past 15 years with Li-on NH-YD and NI-Cad. The Nm hi batteries of today offer lasting performance 50 to 500 times that of there predecessors. with faster safer charge times and even smaller sizes they do offer a great alternative to power your car.. but at a price. Supply demand... Due to the supply and demand, which most low demand reasoning seems to be based on myth or stereo typing, Electric cars are not slow, take for example the tesla with its 124mph speed. The other myth is that they will run flat on you? well a 'fuel' gage will empty just like a petrol car, but you fill it up, Most of today's electric cars have a range of around 200 miles. and FYi most car drivers have an average daily drive of just 25 miles. - to many that may seem a little low, but its true and I'm sure that you go home within 8 days and could plug in your car? With the myths and the low supply of EV's the costs of the materials is higher than it should be due tot eh lower demand. pioneers are taking the hit on the costs of pats like the batteries which account for 70% of EV's cost though there are cheaper alternatives. If 40% of UK car drivers said they wanted a EV today the cost of material would drop making new EV cars as cheap as a budget family car. IMO The catch in supply is the taxes, The government make vast amounts of money on fuel and road taxes as well as the VAT that's added to car parts and services which a EV doesn't require. Over 60% of your fuel cost goes to the government, the road taxes don't go on the roads (that's council tax) and EV's parts tend not to wear like the engine parts of a combustion engine. plus the exhaust, filters, etc and the savings over 3 years really does pay for itself when you turn to a EV... EV suppliers... There are FEW EV suppliers in the UK there are about 4 in total. With celebs with there big bucks to spend on pricey cars the market is limited to the silver lined pocketeers and little to no money is placed for the average person. The government has offered grants if your EV is a lorry or Buss and only placed investment in commercial vehicles only. so there is no incentives to buy EV. You can probably work out that the government only invest where they can get there money back and its never for the greater good. Petrol to electric conversion. There are a few places (companies) and individuals that will convert cars to electric, BUT this is a false economy, old cars rust and this is typically what people want to convert, but behind this the electric conversion would outlast the cars body used for the conversion and all the creature comforts on modern cars will have an impact. New build electric cars also do not have the depreciation of petrol cars, mileage isn't really an issue only the battery cycles (batteries need replacing over time) With purpose built EV's you get better range (mileage) and speed than you would converting a old car. British super carsSuper cars and Bikes have always been at the forefront on Britain and what made Britain Great. Motor cycles saw its end with the low cost asian bikes coming into the Uk throughout the 80's and 90's and even before that. British designers and engineers have always had the leading edge on the world with the steam train (stevenson's rocket) and his Great Western Railway which sill can be seen today. England is a small island filled with people from all around the world and has spirit unique to the UK. Our business minds and get up and go has spread around the world for hundreds of years and we always try to make things better than everyone before us. We sadly saw the closure of TVR in this recession and many of our small companies that build great cars are having a hard time as the governments and banking greed caused the economic recline that we all have to live through regardless if we partook in this greed. Buy British and keep the money turning inside our small island and let British businesses grow. British supercars.co.uk is a thing of the distant past now and may be revived with a new owner and we of course will be on hand to assist a person in taking the steps into business with our (GTWCMT) business assistance. hopefully we will seen businesses grow and the car market return to what it once was in the british hay-day. Building a Electric carBuilding a EV is not as hard as you may think. here is a quick guide on what to do and how to do it. First set is to look at the EV forums, there are plenty around the world and all the people are helpful. Look at buying a kit car. RAW build a nice car called the fulcrum, its light weight and the guys car do the alterations for you to the chassis for your battery packs. there is also plenty of room for everything that you need. Dont forget to asked them for the lighter weight body work and alloy out riggers.. Buying batteries is quite simple, China... heading on over the the china market (online) and then place an order for the batteries as a tender to.. this means that companies will compete in offering you the lower prices, don't forget that you will want batteries formed to meet your requirements. - Flat pack under floor batteries, and tow cubes as well as two or four blocks should give you room to place the batteries around the car to keep it balanced. Li-on or nmhi Vs lead acid, lead acid is heavy but cheap and also bulky and has limited charges, you will want to find batteries that cut off at a lower voltage. (a batteries stops working with they are at 75%, this differs depending on the battery (set on your controller) Li-on. around ten times the costs of lead, but they are lighter and smaller, last longer as well as give more power. You will need an electric motor and a controller. You can pick two types on motor, direct drive (fits in wheel) or the cyclical motor. You can opt to fit this to the DIF directly, or through gear box. You will need a specially made gear box to get the most out of your car as the electric motor works differently to a petrol car. Check the german motor makers for efficient motors and even generators. Cap bank and invertors. One thing that many do not consider in the cap bank to smooth the power draw from the battery and to them, this allows for re gen easy charging and a bit of a power boost. If your home building you may want to forgo this fiddly process. Other things that you will need that are pretty much of the shelf are a controller, and charger. Going hybrid.. If you want to go hybrid you can pack a small on car generation to give you the right power that you need to recharge your car. You may want to have alterations done to this is you use the cap bank system as you can dump energy at a higher rate and have it equalized in the caps before converting down to charge the batteries of provide a boost. Volts Vs amps.... While to many Volts may seem the right thing, its not, Amps are, well its a bit of a combination. Volts = Speed Amps = Range. but that would also depends on how you arrange your battery array. 6v 20amp x20 batteries = 120 amps at 6v and also 120 volts but 20 amps.. Amp draw on the motor is important and will gauge your performance, aim for greater than 400 amps and use a 600 amp controller. The whole performance range math is actually quick complex and some of the guides online are a little hard to follow and can only be used as guides, they air on caution, so you can get better results than what has been stated. |
